Sidebars & Templates
Sidebar widgets are reusable boxes rendered in the WHMCS client-area primary sidebar. Templates are reusable Smarty page layouts for Internal pages.
Two different things — Sidebar Widgets are content boxes attached to a sidebar; Page Templates are whole Smarty layouts a page uses. Don’t confuse them — a page picks one template, but can show many widgets.
Sidebar Widgets
Add, edit and delete widgets under Sidebars & Widgets. Each widget has:
- Title — shown in the sidebar panel header.
- Type — one of four kinds:
Content
A simple HTML content box rendered in a sidebar panel.
Links
A set of links rendered as real sidebar menu items.
Content + Links
Both an HTML content block and a link list in one panel.
Image
An uploaded image (JPG/PNG/GIF/WebP), with an optional click-through link and "open in new tab" option.
Assigning widgets to a page
From the Internal Page or PHP Page form, use the Sidebars multi-select (a modern Choices multi-select):
- Click a widget to add it to the selection; click the × on a chip to remove it.
- The order of the selection is the display order on the page — reorder by removing and re-adding.
- Save the page; widgets render in that order in the client-area sidebar.
Widget assignment is per page. The same widget can be enabled or disabled globally in the Sidebar Widgets list; if a widget is deactivated it is hidden on every page even if still assigned.
How widgets are rendered
Widgets are hooked into the ClientAreaPrimarySidebar and rendered as WHMCS sidebar panels:
- Content and Image widgets become a panel with the widget title; content is escaped, images are sized to fit the sidebar width.
- Links and Content + Links widgets render their links as real WHMCS sidebar menu items (so they highlight correctly and can navigate in-page).
Page Templates
Reusable Smarty layouts for Internal pages — manage them under Templates.
- Give the template a Name, a File name and the Smarty Template content.
- Each template is stored as a real Smarty file in
modules/addons/page/templates/client/<file>.tpland rendered through the module’s own Smarty instance — never clashes with the WHMCS theme. - Available variables:
$title,$contains(page content),$sidebar,$menus,$commentsand$disqususer. - The Default Template cannot be renamed or deleted.
